About Barton-le-Street
The Kemp family have been growing fruit for the PYO season since 1984, selecting varieties for flavour rather than shelf life, as no food miles are involved. We now specialise in strawberries and raspberries for the summer season opening our second P.Y.O. site at Barton-le-Street in 2019.
Summer just wouldn’t be the same without some red ripe, succulent strawberries and raspberries!
Pick your own fruit is a fun activity for all the family. The children learn where their food comes from whilst foraging amongst the plants looking for the biggest juiciest strawberry or raspberry they can find, at the same time enjoying the fresh air with the bonus of going home with fabulous tasty fruit.
All our strawberries are now grown out of the ground on our ‘table tops’ making your picking experience less back breaking! Several varieties are grown allowing us to extend the picking season as long as possible from mid June to early September with raspberries available for picking in July and August.
All the fruit is grown outdoors, exposed to the unpredictability of the Yorkshire weather, ripening in natural sunshine, and so ready for picking in its natural season, which we think adds to the flavour of the fruit. Come along and see for yourselves.
Once picking is over we have a small pop up shop selling simple refreshments and farm produce. Depending when you visit you may also be able to see our cattle and turkeys grazing or the tractors working in the adjacent fields.

Strawberries

Available mid June to late August.
Summer would not be the same without these succulent, juicy berries, the kids favourite. All our strawberries are now grown out of the ground on either our table tops or baby tops making your picking experience much more enjoyable.

Raspberries

Available to mid/late August.
These wonderfully tasting berries are amazing to make jam with or just enjoy drizzled with cream.

Sunflowers

Come and choose your very own ray of sunshine. We are growing over 20,000 stems this year so there will be plenty for everyone to choose from!
