Frequently Asked Questions
Please note we are a working farm with farmers and farm vehicles working alongside the PYO. For health and safety reasons please do not stray away from the PYO site or areas that are not currently open for picking. Some gateways are for tractor only access, please be aware of the warning signsYes – there is no access to the P.Y.O. fields without a ticket. The small café/shop and farm animals are accessible without tickets (animals subject to weather at end of the season) are accessible without a ticket. Turning up at the farm is no guarantee of getting a ticket as we limit numbers.
Booking is essential as we have limited fruit availability so it ensures all customers will be able to find some fruit to pick. It also prevents the farm from overcrowding by spreading visitor numbers throughout the day, making a more enjoyable experience for everyone
The ticket price includes car parking, entry to the pick your fields, a handful of wildflowers (when in season) and the tractor trailer ride around the farm. It does not include any fruit or any other flowers except from wildflowers.
We accept both.
Yes we do however we do not currently have disabled toilets available.
Yes you can, please bear in mind that we are a farm and following heavy rainfall the ground can get muddy. When getting on the tractor trailer ride if you need assistance please don’t hesitate to ask the driver to help you on /off the trailer ride with your buggy/pushchair.
Please bear in mind that you are visiting a working farm so there are limitations to accessibility, as access is all ‘off road’. Our car park is gravel and you will be picking in fields that can be uneven/bumpy so it could be hard to push a wheelchair around, particularly after rainfall. There is sufficient space between the summer fruit picking rows for wheelchairs/pushchairs to access, but for other crops access up to the crop boundary may be the only option. The tractor trailer ride does have a space for a wheelchair/pushchair but the user must be able to climb approx. 6 steps to get on board. There is a handrail. We do not yet have disabled toilets available on site. If you prefer a less busy experience we recommend coming on a weekday outside of school holidays when our visitor numbers are lower.
No, this is not acceptable. Any groups that are obviously picking and eating before paying will be asked to leave the farm. Many fruit farms have gone out of business in recent years with customers eating without paying for fruit a contributory factor -we don’t want to become one of them!
Strawberries, raspberries and blackberries are sold by weight, we have scales in the kiosk at the exit to the fields – we provide punnets that can hold up to approx. 1Kg or 3Kg fruit – it is up to you how full you fill them. Sunflowers and tulips are charged per stem, and pumpkins by size. Prices are displayed at the entry along with any special offers of the day. You must pay for all that you pick.
Yes. All fruit picked must be paid for. We are happy for you to pick as much as you want but please remember you will have to pay for everything that you and your group pick. Simply put - don’t pick it if you are not prepared to pay for it. Please ensure that children are closely supervised at all times to ensure that only ripe berries are picked.
The time stated on your ticket is your arrival time onto the farm, you are welcome to stay up until closing which is 1hour after the last entry time on that specific date, so check the booking page as this can vary from day to day.
We try to be as accommodating as possible for early arrivals and allow check in for the majority, but on occasion there may be a good reason not to, so we ask you please to be patient. Please make your way to the check in for more information.
We try to be as accommodating as possible for late comers. Please bear in mind that we may refuse admission if you are more than 30 minutes late from the start of your booked time, particularly if you booked the last slot of the day.
No, the play area is free. However, we do ask that all children are supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
The pigs and goats are typically out in their fields, next to the play area, from June to the end of October. If their fields are getting too wet towards the end of October we may have to move them into the sheds which unfortunately are away from public access.
As you are visiting a farm it’s a great excuse to get the wellies out! Farmer Joe is only rarely seen without his on! If dry we still recommend wearing older trainers as you may still find a wet spot on the farm caused from our irrigation systems. Open toe shoes are not recommended. Our site can be breezy and the weather can suddenly change so please come prepared for all eventualities as fruit and flower picking is totally an outdoor activity.
Yes, we have a welly wash for you to rinse off your boots off if needed. Please supervise children in this area and ensure the taps are turned off after use. Thank you.
Yes, we offer all our customers free on-site car parking. Most parking is hard standing but at busy times overflow parking may be in grass fields.
Yes, well behaved dogs are welcome on the farm but must be kept on a lead at all times and away from our field where strawberries are being grown in baby tops (ie low down) and away from our raspberry canes for obvious hygiene reasons. We also ask you to pick up all deposits that they may have left and deposit the bags in our bins. We generally have doggy ice cream available if you wish to give them a special treat! Please be mindful that some of our other customers may not be dog friendly.
We have a seasonal cafe that serves hot and cold drinks, ice cream and treats. On busy days you will find Farmer Kemp cooking up some of his delicious burgers and sausages for you.
When booking tickets the crop available will be in the title of the event you book. Also check our pyo calendar for what is in season. We cannot guarantee how much fruit is available to pick.
Yes picnics can be brought to the farm. We have a dedicated picnic area by the shed as you go into the farm. No picnics are allowed in any of the picking fields, so please leave your bags in the car while you pick as you are not allowed to take them into the fields.
Head over to our pyo calendar to see what fruit is available. Our quietest time on the farm is normally between 11.30am and 2pm on a week day. Our weekends are typically the busiest time to come to the farm.
If you are bringing a large group please let us know. You may need special parking reserving to allow your vehicle to turn around and park safely (e.g. coaches/mini buses) or there may be other considerations to allow large groups alongside our usual smaller family groups. We do allow you to come, we just need to know to make any necessary arrangements. Email info@kemps.farm
The easiest way is to take the airport bus or 33A and to get off at the Rawdon Road/Hall Lane bus stop and to then walk up Hall Lane, turning left onto West End Rise. Continue straight onto West End Lane. The farm is then approximately 400yds on your left. This walk is approximate 3/4mile uphill and will take around 12 mins.
Alternatively the number 27 bus (Leeds to Guiseley Morrisons) stopping at junction Bayton Lane/Brownberrie Lane, then walk downhill down West End Lane. Approx. distance 0.5miles
Horsforth Train station has a regular service from Leeds and is approx. 1.6miles from the P.Y.O.
The best way to find us it to use the postcode : LS18 5ES it brings you almost to the end of the farm driveway Our address is Horsforth Pick Your Own, West End Lane, Horsforth, Leeds LS18 5ES
The approach to the farm is among houses, and you will travel over speed bumps, but don’t worry you are heading in the right direction and will see our sign on the roadside leading into the farm!

Strawberries are best picked when fully ripened (red all over). Hold the fruit gently whilst using your thumb nail to gently snap the stem immediately above the fruit. Do not pull the strawberry – you can damage the fruit and the plant. Only remove the green leafy top of the strawberry (the calyx) immediately prior to eating the fruit. if you remove it during picking, the fruit will not last as long.
Raspberries should be gently pulled off the plant – if there is any resistance the raspberry is not yet ripe enough.
We do not recommend washing the fruit prior to consuming. Our crops are grown as environmentally friendly way as possible. We adhere to very strict harvest intervals so you can be assured that nothing harmful will be on the fruit. Washing soft fruit will only damage it.
Yes we do. We have limited funded school trips every year. Once these are fully booked we are able to offer trips to schools but these will be chargeable. For more details visit the Contact page or email info@kemps.farm
